Rubbish collector saves lives of more than thirty children.
I believe the Hall of Fame of the Greatest Parents blog should be started with one of the most remarkable couple in the history of parenting. Those people were not only amazing parents to their own daughter, Zhang Caiying now aged 50, but to unknown kids found abandoned in the trash. They are the perfect example for parental love for all of us.
The story of Lou Xiaoying and her late husband Li Zin, who died seventeen years ago, has gone viral in 2012 but those two found and raised more than thirty kids over the years, without the gratitude from the world and celebrity status. They did it without any funds or support from the government.
Lou, who supported her family by recycling rubbish, found the kids abandoned on the streets of Jinhua, in the eastern Zhejiang province in China. Together with Li, they kept four of the children and passed the others to friends and family to start new lives.
“The whole thing started when I found the first baby, a little girl back in 1972 when I was out collecting rubbish. She was just lying amongst the junk on the street, abandoned. She would have died had we not rescue her and taken her in. Watching her grow and become stronger gave us such happiness and I realized I had a real love of caring for children. I realized if we had strength to collect garbage how could we not recycle something as important as human lives. These children need love and care. They are all precious human lives. I do not understand how people can leave such a vulnerable baby on the streets” she explained.
Lou devoted her life to looking after the abandoned babies. She was shaming Chinese government and their one child policy. With no money or power, she saved all those children from death.
